 WEEKLY UPDATE 28TH SEPTEMBER 2024

Bradford Deaf Centre completed the double over Pudsey this week, but it was a much closer encounter than at the Deaf Centre in week 1. The reverse was the case at Princeville, where the B team had won the first game by just a few points, but were soundly thrashed by the A team in the return fixtures. This leaves Deaf Centre leading the table with 5 points, Princeville A have 3, Princeville B 2 and Pudsey yet to get off the mark.

This coming week Pudsey visit Princeville A while Princeville B will be heading to the Deaf Centre

At Princeville nobody in the B team outscored his opponent, and adding handicaps didn't help much, although it did get Keith Tomlinson within 4 points. At Pudsey, the scorecard showed that 3 players from each side scored more points than their opponent - both with and without handicaps - but an impressive performance from Ian Ford saw the visitors home. Ian scored 165 (one of only 3 players across both matches to exceed 160) while his opponent Peter Allan must also have scored well to get to 101, although as both are on the same handicap the winning margin was still 64. This pairs combined total of 266 was the highest of the week, and this increased to 435 with handicaps added, which was over 50 points more than any other pair and higher than any pair in week 1. Was the clock on a go slow you might ask!!

No breaks over 30 this week but Steve Gatenby put a marker down for the new 85 and above break category with a 23 - although this will only qualify if nobody in this category exceeds 20 in a league fixture. Unlikely I imagine. I hope to have league fixtures on the web site for next week with handbooks to follow soon after

I have now managed to load the first week's scorecards onto the Scorecards page and I will add the second weeks as soon as my technology allows. (Now done 30th Sept)

 UPDATE 20th SEPTEMBER 2024

Bradford Deaf Centre have won the Knock Out Competition for the past 2 seasons, and are off to a flying start in this year's competition, with a 146 point victory at home to Pudsey this week. Pudsey started 140 points behind on handicap with none of their players having a higher handicap than his opponent. Sid Ash was the only Pudsey player to win by more than his handicap deficit and so Pudsey will be left looking for better in the return fixture next week. Jeremy Dixon and Richard Bowes scored 352 points between them, which was over 70 more than any other pair in either match

At Princeville it was a much closer affair, with the B team beating the A team by just 8 points. There ware  only 4 points in it going into the final two games, in which  I beat Chris Jarvis by 30, while Peter Turner lost to Edward Lawson by 26, thus doubling the B team's narrow advantage. Earlier in the evening Gareth Kershaw had got the A team off to a good start, with a 39 point victory over Graham Bentley (both players are on the same handicap). This pairs combined score plus handicap of 407 was the highest across both matches

The only significant break on the night was Richard Bowes 36 at the Deaf Centre. (I hope to post scorecard images in due course - if I can get my scanner talking to my computer!!)

This coming week (24th September) sees the reverse of this week's fixtures with another close encounter expected at Princeville, while Pudsey will have plenty to do against Bradford Deaf Centre if they are to secure the additional aggregate point on offer

 UPDATE 15TH SEPTEMBER 2024

The new season starts this week, with two matches in the 6 man team Knock Out Competition. There will be a 'derby' at Princeville, where their two teams meet each other, while Pudsey will visit Bradford Deaf Centre. A full list of fixtures for this  competition can be found on Knock Out Competition page

This is the third year that the Knock Out Competition has been played in this format at the start of the season, and so far Bradford Deaf Centre have won the trophy both times. Will anybody be able to stop them making it three in a row.!!
